Refqan Generations

Three generations. One rescued animal. A lifetime of shared compassion.

In honor of the Year of Family 2026, Refqan invites families to come together—children, parents, and grandparents—to champion the rescue and rehabilitation of an animal in need. This is more than adoption; it's about passing down the Emirati value of rifq (kindness to animals) across generations.

Rooted in Heritage, Built for Tomorrow

The UAE has always honored the bond between humans and animals. From the Saluki dogs that accompanied Bedouin families across the desert to the falcons that symbolize strength and loyalty, caring for animals is woven into the fabric of Emirati culture.

Rifq—the Arabic word for gentleness and compassion toward animals—is not just a practice; it's a legacy. It's what grandparents taught their children, and what those children now pass to the next generation.

But in today's fast-paced world, families often struggle to find meaningful ways to connect across generations. Refqan Generations offers a solution: a shared mission that brings children, parents, and grandparents together to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome an animal—creating memories, strengthening bonds, and honoring a timeless value.

Why Three Generations?

Each generation brings unique strengths. Together, they create something extraordinary.

Children (Ages 6-16)

Bring energy, curiosity, and a natural love for animals. They learn responsibility, empathy, and the joy of caring for a life that depends on them. This experience shapes their character and instills values that last a lifetime.

Parents

Serve as the bridge between generations. They guide the children, support the grandparents, and model teamwork and commitment. Parents also gain a deeper appreciation for their own heritage as they watch their children learn from their elders.

Grandparents

Carry the wisdom of tradition. They share stories of how animals were cared for in their youth, teach patience and gentleness, and remind the family why rifq matters. Their presence gives the program its soul.
